New ICRA Performance Assessment Designation – Tufted Carpet Repair

Tufted Carpet Repair Performance Assessment

What is the ICRA Assessment Program for certification?  How does it differ from other certifications?

There are two parts to an ICRA certification:  Cognitive and Performance.

The cognitive assessment is a written, multiple choice exam similar to what other organizations do to certify.  In fact, if you currently hold the RRT certification with the IICRC, you have fulfilled ½ of your requirement as long as you go to www.icrassociation.org, go to Certification and Training, go to Recognition Program, then fill out the required forms with information as well as pay the $40 fee for ALL of your certifications to be recognized by ICRA.

What is the ICRA Tufted Carpet Repair Performance Assessment?
What skills will be assessed?

The Tufted Carpet Repair Performance Assessment consists of 6 different carpet repairs.  1)  Surface Graft of a low level loop, direct gluedown;  2)  Permanent Section (bonded insert) of a low level loop, direct gluedown;  3)  Surface Graft of a Patterned Berber, stretch-in;  4)  Surface Graft of a Cut-Pile Carpet, stretch-in;  5)  Permanent Section (bonded insert) of a Cut-Pile Carpet, stretch-in with either a glue gun or Kool Glide ™;   6)  Minor, accessible Delamination repair.

At The Experience in Clearwater Beach, FL, you will have a chance to have your Tufted Carpet Repair skills assessed during the trade show hours.

Monday       4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Tuesday       1:30 pm to 5:30 pm

Wednesday  11:30 am to 2:30 pm

How do I sign up to be assessed and what is the cost of assessment?

You can register with Meetings & Events for the Tufted Carpet Repair Assessment.  If you are an ICRA member the cost of assessment is $149.00.  If you are Not an ICRA member the cost of assessment is $199.00.   Each repair will take approximately 30 to 40 minutes to complete.  When you arrive at the Experience we will have a “sign-up” sheet for you to select which times during the show that you would like to be assessed. It is not necessary to be assessed on all 6 repairs at one time. You can break up the assessment over the 3 times that assessments will be performed. They can be done all at once or some each day on Monday, Tuesday and Weds.  The sign-up will be on a first come, first serve basis however this format will allow you to enjoy the trade show and other activities while you are in at the show.

How difficult is it to pass the assessment?

You WILL be assessed on each repair at the conclusion of the performance assessment.  The assessment is based upon three levels of performance:  Entry, Capable or Proficient.

Entry levelthe candidate will need constant supervision

Capable level:  the candidate will need some supervision

Proficient level:  the candidate is capable to performing the repair without supervision.

As an added benefit you WILL know what skills you are strong in and what skills need further practice.

Will there be a chance to practice BEFORE the assessment?

There will be hands-on practice for those involved in the Tufted carpet repair assessment. Hands on sessions are scheduled on:

Monday       10:15 to 12:15

Tuesday       10:30 to 12:00 noon

Wednesday  8:30 am to 10:40 am

Are there further opportunities available with ICRA?

If you test out as “Proficient” we are looking for Registered Assessors throughout the country to assess fellow professionals.  This is a PAID position.  For more information about this opportunity call Barry Costa at (603) 547-5006.

You will be some of the first to hold this level of certification in the industry and have a chance to get work with those looking specifically for this level and type of certification.  The market is ripe!

For those of you that are interested in being assessed in carpet cleaning the Carpet Cleaning Performance Assessment that will take place on Thursday, April 27 from 8:30am to 5:00 pm.
